How Decktrace compares.

Your website measures every visit. A deck sent as a file reports nothing back. Here is how Decktrace compares with DocSend, Storydoc and Gamma, where each one is strong, and a source for every claim we make about them.

Page 2 of the Aurora Robotics seed round deck, Traction, measured the way a website is. Sarah Chen, on her second visit, spent 2:05 on the page and scrolled to the bottom. She read from an approximate location, Berlin, estimated from the connection, on a tablet, in English. The reader notice is on, so readers see what is measured.

Why reading data

Websites are measured. Decks are not.

A company measures every visit to its website: the pages, the time, the scroll, the city, the device and who came back. Then it sends its most important pitch as a file it can no longer see.

Left, the analytics for the Aurora Robotics website over the last 7 days: views, average engagement time and returning users, the most visited pages with the average time on each, a heatmap of the product page with the line where 90% of the page was scrolled, the top cities and the split between desktop, mobile and tablet. Right, the same company's seed round deck sent to Northline Ventures as a PDF attachment. After sending, opened, time on each page, scroll depth, city and country, device and return visits all stay empty: no data.
  1. Measured by default.

W3Techs, whose sample includes well over 20 million sites, reports that Google Analytics is used by 46.9% of all the websites it surveys, and that 42.9% use none of the traffic analysis tools it monitors.12 Microsoft Clarity, a free tool for session recordings and heatmaps, is used by 4.2% of them.15

  2. Measured in detail.

Google Analytics records a page view each time a page loads, and a scroll the first time a visitor reaches 90% of a page's depth.3 It reports average engagement time, city, country, device category, language and returning users.4 Clarity adds heatmaps of clicks, scrolling and attention.5

  3. A sent file goes quiet.

Once a deck leaves as an attachment, the sender cannot see which page held the reader, whether they came back, or whether it reached new readers. File-sharing tools such as DocSend close part of that gap by showing the time spent on each page of a shared document.6

Website-style, for decks

Website-style facts, for every deck you send.

Decktrace brings the basics of website reading data to the deck itself: pages, time, scroll, visits, device and an approximate location. Each one is shown as what happened, never as a label or a score, and readers see a short notice about what is measured. Interaction heatmaps show where readers looked and clicked on each page.

  • Facts per page and per visit, never labels or scores
  • Your own previews and link scanners are left out of reading data
  • A short notice tells readers what is measured

What a website measures next to what Decktrace measures in a deck. Page views: the pages each reader reached. Engagement time: time on each page. Scroll at 90% depth: scroll depth on each page. Heatmaps and recordings: interaction heatmaps. City and country: an approximate city and country, estimated from the connection. Device category and language: device and reading language. Returning users: first and return visits. Your own previews and link scanners are left out of reading data. Readers see a short notice about what is measured.

Questions

Comparisons, answered.

From each company's own pricing pages and help centre articles, read on 22 October 2026. Every claim links to its source with the date. Where a page showed a browser check instead of its content, we read its latest Internet Archive copy and say so. Where a page does not say something, we write not stated.

It follows the same idea: which pages were read, for how long, how far down, from roughly which city and on which device, and whether someone came back. Decktrace records active time and scroll depth for each page, and first and return visits, device, reading language and an approximate city and country for each reader. Interaction heatmaps show where readers looked and clicked on each page.

No. Decktrace shows what happened: opens, return visits, and active time and scroll depth on each page. It never gives readers intent labels or scores. How a reader appears depends on how they got in: anonymous on an open link, the email entered with email and password, or a verified email with an email code.

Yes. Readers see a short notice about what is measured when they open a deck. The exact wording and the choices it gives them are part of our privacy rules. We will publish the details before launch.
